when it all started
Hey
I would like to know what I can about the Schaffner family, is Schaffner the original spelling, it seems less common in my part of Canada and spell check always says it is spelt wrong. I also heard families that kept that spelling of the name; that is did not remove the C were supporters of Nazis, just wondering if anyone has thoughts on that.
Now I have found too much records of Schaffner families moving to France, Canada and the US but not about the beginning of the family. One website I found said that they come from Hesse Germany and date back to early Medieval times (so closer to 5th century then 16th, maybe just after or during the dark age with Rome's fall and the Germanic tribes made regional hegemonies and finding their own power...so my humble online reading has told me.) It is also said at some point the Schaffner family was wed into french nobility and became the King's royal steward and thats what Schaffner means right?(I also heard it ment creator)...so if they come from Germany, or any Norse background they must have been stewards then because the name has not changed after they married into the french, (I have no dates to offer of when different spelling of the name started). So they must have had high standings of some sorts to be wed into French nobility to become King Stewards? lol all the question marks cause I am simply stating what I have read and been told because I would like to know if any one knows about these and if they are good solid facts.
If you have any information on Schaffner history, particularly with dates and locations and professions and marriages from the time period in which i speak feel free to share
