Willie,
The name Schaefer/Shafer/Shaffer/Sheffler/Shaver/Shearer/etc I thought was the shearer of sheep too. That is a translation to me of a German girl here in the states from Nurnberg.
Although I can understand your meaning too.
I also have Marrs/Mars/Meyer/Myers/Mayer/etc in my family.
Then too, I have Sherman/Scheuerman/Schermahorn/Simmons/Simms/
Summers/Sammons/Speir/Spear/Scheuer/Scheur/etc that I am told was the overseer of things.
Then the French heritage I am supposed to have, I know nothing at this time.Nor did I know of any Swiss.I'm what they call over here a "Heinz 57" with so many nationalities.
I've been to Germany, Switzerland, and a few more countries.Germany and Switzerland were beautiful.Since my Dad's family of Goetzinger and Obermayer, I felt quite at home after being raised in a very German town in America.
Merely wanted to say hello and welcome your interest and information to the site.
Elizabeth
