I am a Schaad from Germany and my ancestors are the Schaad from Hillesheim (now it belongs to the state Rheinland-Pfalz), wich belonged to Hessen-Darmstadt on the west side of the Rhein-River (it's spelled in German). Oppenheim is not far away from Hillesheim, which is the Origin of the Schaad family (the oldest notes are from the early 17th century).
I'm very sure, that there is a connection. The name Schaad ist not a typical German name and especially not in that region and with that spelling. Sometimes it was spelled Schaadt, Schadt or Schad (not very often, but much more common in Germany).
I hope, that I could help a bit. More information has my father. He located all the handwritten "Church-books" of Hillesheim and transfered them into a readable script.
