Yes Jill, This sure is my ggg/grandfather. The woman receiving the certificate was my aunty Elizabeth Thatcher/Rowe. I was at the event and it caused quite a stir because of the fact that he was numbered 1.
I think it was only luck (maybe he didn't think so) that he happened to walk off the ship first. Unfortunately I have found very little information regarding him in England. I was hoping thakt the free publicity might help but alas nothing as yet.
