Burrell Nathaniel Scates was my great-grandfather, and I have the remnants of a Bible that I believe he brought back to the Carolinas with him after Elizabeth's death. I also believe that this was originally the Abshire family Bible. One notation reads that an Abshire was born May 15, 1855. This might be Elizabeth's birth date. It's difficult to read because the ink is faded and the writing was "flowery." I would be interested in learning about the three children that Grandpa Burrell left in Texas when he came back to North Carolina. Do you have anything on them? I know some interesting things about the son, John, but our family has no knowledge of what happened to the other children. I hope we can help each other by exchanging information.
