I am looking for information about Sarah A. Scates (b. about 1826) who remarried Elijah Lewis Menifee in 1868 in Keokuk County, Iowa. According to the 1880 census, she was orignally from Ohio, as was her deceased first husband. What was her first husband's first name? They had several children in the 1850s and 60s. I'm especially interested in her sons, Henry M. Scates (1856-1890) and Franklin A. Scates (1857-1929). Henry married Hattie E. Wilkins about 1884. After Henry's death in 1890, his brother Franklin married Hattie in about late 1890. All this took place in Keokuk County in the Jackson Township, Ollie, Steady Run and Hedrick areas. Anyone know anything about these Scates (later spelled Skates)? Any help would be appreciated.- David Skates (grandson of Franklin and Hattie Scates)
