Hello Sue,

Fancy catching up with you on the net.
We have just returned from England. It seems our family originated in Yorkshire. In the village of Askrigg N.York I walked into a pub and asked about Scarrs. The landlord's sister was married to a Scarr; but due to foot and mouth, I could not visit their sheep farm. (The family are all sheep farmers) I also located various Scarr graves in the local churchyard. Scarrs go back as far as the 17th century at least in this area. Further, it seems Scarrs are of Viking, not Roman descent. It could be that Grandad was of Roman descent on his mother's side. I also feel, for several reasons, that Gay was Roman.
Anyway, ring me. I have a lot to tell you and will send you photos when they are ready.

Your cousin,
