Thank you for replying to my message posted in August 2001. I have done a lot of research since then. Apparently my friend Barbara Voigtlaender of Bluffdale, Utah is your distant cousin. Her gggrandfather Elihu Robert Scarberry was a nephew of your ancestor David Scarberry. You said: "They all migrated to Pike County, KY around 1850 and there is some question as to whether Samuel may have died on the way, or just before the move." What information do you have confirming that Samuel's family went to Pike Co. in 1850 with brother David Scarberry?
According to the1850 census Samuel's wife Nancy and7 of their children were in Russell Co., VA in August of 1850. (Samuel did not appear on the census, so presumably he was dead by then.) They were still living there on the 1860 census, except that the part of Russell Co. where they lived had become Wise Co. in 1856. In 1870 Samuel's daughter Nancy appears without mother Nancy on the census in Paintsville, Johnson Co., KY. Barbara's gggrandfather Elihu R. and 2 other Scarberry children (Delilah E. born 1853 and Sarah C. born 1855) were living with her. Hence, it appears that some of Samuel's children went to Johnson Co., KY between 1860 and 1870. I haven't seen the two younger Scarberry females (Delilah E. and Sarah C.) mentioned above on any family group record for Samuel Scarberry and Nancy Mullins. Yet they were also living with Nancy (Mullins) Scarberry in 1860. Do you know if they were her daughters?
