David
There was a John Scannell baptized in Cork, in the Cloyne Diocese, on August 8, 1822. If you mean Fermoy rather than Fernoy this would make sense because I was researching in the Fermoy and Rathcormac area of Cork.
His parents were James Scannell and Margaret O'Brien.
He had brothers Patrick (1807/3/21), James 1813/11/02), Jeremiah (1817/5/23) and Daniel (1819/11/30).
He had sisters Mary (1809/3/10) and Margaret (1822/12/22).
I got this information from the Cloyne Diocese records on a recent trip to Ireland. The dates are baptism dates, not birth dates but they should be fairly close.
I don't know if this is the same John Scannell that you are looking for but it is all I have for now.
Best Regards, Don
