Scanlan DNA Group

Is there a DNA group for the SCANLAN surname? I have been totally stumped on the origins of my great grandfather Edward D. Scanlan. He died in Galveston, TX in 1899. Records providing birth info are few and muddled. Born between 1849 and 1855, Canada, Ireland or Massachusetts? No info on parents.

A potential tool might be DNA testing. I do have a couple of cousins who are descendants and bearers of the SCANLAN surname. Any info on a DNA group that includes SCANLAN?
