Hi there, I’m trying to find any information on my Scanlan family. This is what I know about them. The earliest ancestor I can find is John Scanlan (b.178?). I believe he married a Hannah Daymen in Mancetter (Warwickshire) in 1800. John had a daughter Hannah who married a Joseph Ross. John Scanlan also had a son Robert Scanlan (b. 1813?; and possibly another daughter Bridget) who is my great great great granddad. John and Hannah disappear after that, I can’t find them anywhere. There is also a George Scanlan in Mancetter at the time who is almost certainly related (he has a son George b. 1813, they dissapear too i.e. not on any census records). Robert Scanlan may have had brothers Nicholas and John Scanlan who served with the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers in Gibraltor, Ireland and then Corfu. I don’t think Robert served as he was a lime and then coal miner. On some census reports Robert is listed as born in Jersey (channel islands; Nicholas was definitely born on Jersey). Other census reports have him born in Ireland whereas another says Atherstone, Warwickshire. Robert married twice, once in 1832 in Mancetter to a Harriet Burbidge (at least three children: Mary, Caroline, & Charles) and a second time to a Sarah Landsley. His son Charles (my great great granddad) married Martha Booth had at least five children (Charlotte, Harriet, Charles (died in infancy) Harry (my great granddad), Lucy). Harry married Nell Rollason and had four children, Ruby, Dorothy, Herbert (granddad) and Lesley. I would love to hear from anybody who knows anything about this family. Thanks for reading this, John Notify Administrator about this message?
