I have a relation, John Scally, from Bush Mills, County Antrim, N. Ireland. He was my great great grandfather born 1833 - married Jane Gass also from Bush Mills, @ St. Paul's Anglican church in Kingston Ontario Canada - we think they travelled as brother and sister from Ireland and were married upon their arrival - They lived on Garden Island, the first of the St. Lawrence River's 1000 Islands. Family story is that he was one of several brothers and the family owned land in Bush Mills but lost the land - he emigrated with Jane who had worked on the property.
Garden Island was a shipbuilding site for vessels which sailed on the Great Lakes. John Scally was ship's captain of one of these vessels. When John Scally married for a second time they lived in Portsmouth. John was active on Sir John A. McDonald's political committees.
They had one daughter Mary Jane Scally, my great grandmother.
