I posted a query re William Scally in March, 2006. Some of my information was incorrect and new information has been found. My William Scally came to Spotsylvania Co. VA in 1769-70 from Ireland on the brig Fanny as an indentured servant for Fielding Lewis, George Washington's brother-in-law. William was a carpenter and he came to work on Lewis' estate, Kenwood. In 1774 William was in the VA militia and enlisted in the American Army from Fincastle Co. VA, Aug. 1776 with at least 3 other men from the Fanny - Lawrence Conner, Jacob Prier, and Thomas Prier. William was court martialed and given a sentence of 100 lashes in 1778, order signed by Gen. Washington. His name is on the roles of troops who served at Valley Forge. He was wounded at the Battle of Cowpens SC and fought at the Battle of Guildford Courthouse NC and Eutaw Springs NC.

He settled in Davidson Co. TN. Cannot find his children's names or his wife, although he arrived from Ireland with an Ann Scally. A James Skelley has been thought to be his son,, but no proof. James was a marshal in Williamson County TN and was killed in the line of duty. He married a woman whose family name was Pigg. They were married in 1806 and my great-great-great grandfather Pryor (Prior, Prier) Scally was born 1801-1803. Also Pryor did not share in James' estate. I believe there is a family connection somewhere between the Scallys and Skellys/Skelleys due to the Pryor brothers who served with william. There are reasons both for and against Pryor being one of William's descendents. William died in Davidson Co. July 2, 1823 at age of about 80. Can anyone supply names of his children or wife and where he might be buried? Also, does anyone have any more information on who Pryor's father might have been? Pryor eventually settled in Tippah Co. MS where the family remained until some of them migrated to Texas.
