Hi, Maybe we can keep in touch and see if we can find a common link. I would imagine that it is a distinct possibilty that some Scallion/Scallions/Scallorns are African-American. The family was a slaveholding family and often the slaves took the name of the owner. I do know that on Texas and Louisiana census records there are those who are people of color and some are classed on the census records a mulatto. In my 20+ years of doing genealogy research on this family, I have yet to run into anyone that is African-American. I'm afraid that is as clear and honest an answer as I am able to provide.
