Hi Deborah,
My husband's gggggggrandfather was John Scales.
We are also finding info for our daughter to
join the DAR through Randall Duke Scales' wife. John was Randall's grandfather. The
History of Rockingham County, N.C. has histories of the Scales family beginning with
the first Joseph. Sources for John and his
family are "Early Families of the N.C. Countiesof Rockingham and Stokes with Rev.service" Vol. 1 and 11. "A History of the Scales of northeast Mississippi", county court, fed. census , marriaage bonds, family and cemetery records and private correspondence. In John's bio, Johns' son is
listed as Joseph Henry born 15 March 1765, died 10 Jan.1832, married ca. 1796 Nancy Alley, born 16 Oct.1777 died 20 Sept. 1820.
Hope these sources help. We have been gathering info for a while, but I think we
are also home free. Our next step is sending
in a resume! Good luck,

Evelyn Chiles e-mail is
