Dear Lindsey -

I am related to a Scalera family tree but I do not believe it is the same as yours (please see Nacy and Joseph's messages below yours - they are my relatives). ANyway I have found 2 Domenic Scaleras on the Ellis Island web page (www.ellisisland.org) one which came to the US in 1903 and another in 1909 both from Bari. Please note I typed in Domenico Scalera as they have used the italian form of Dominic - and this may help you in other searches.

The one who travelled in 1903 was only 18yrs old. The other (1909) was aged 37 yrs and married. It would appear that latter is your great-grandfather as their first child was born in 1913 and I believe you said THEY travelled together (meaning Domenic took his wife to america and not that they met in the US). Though I cannot find a woman Scalera at first glance on the ship's manifest. It would be helpful to have her first name.
