Scaife Family Genealogy Forum

I have a Benson family tree going back to 1490. It seems that the Skaifes and the Bensons have a long history of links. The earliest record I have of a Benson is Thomas Benson who was alive in 1480 and lived at the Lodge of Branga which was part of the Fountain's Abbey Estate. The two families obviously lived close by each other in Nidderdale for hundreds of years.
I can find Anne Benson born in 1742 and married to T Skaife. Anne's father was Robert Benson, born in 1707 and he lived at either Low Hall or Lacon Hall in Dacre. I don't know about any children from that marriage.
I also have another link which is that Robert Benson born in 1803 married Jane Skaife who died in 1851. I don't yet have a marriage date but their first child was born in 1831 and they had 10 children between 1831 and 1849. In the 1851 census most of the children are living at Braisty Woods Farm which belonged to the Skaife family. Robert Benson is in the 1861 census as a linen manufacturer employing 400 people. (I can't find him in the 1851 census) Also in the 1834 Directory of Trades for Dacre there is an entry for Skaife Benson Linen Manufacturers. I haven't been able to check yet but I think the Skaife family were the linen manufacturers and that Robert Benson joined the company through marriage.
That's all I have for now but if I find more I will post again. Likewise if you can fill in any information on Bensons I would be grateful
