Can anyone help me with this.
From the book 'The Scaife Story' by William R. Scaife.
Richard Scaife of Winton Hall, Westmoreland, England, son of Robert Scaife and Mary Colville, married 1st Elizabeth Rayne daughter of Charles Rayne of Darlington on 18 Aug. 1666, then he married as his second wife, Elizabeth Cheesborough, daughter of Hugh Cheesborough of Burnopfield by Tanfield, Durham Richard had two known sons:
1. William Scaife of Tansfield b. 2 June 1689.
2. John Scaife of Lintz Green m. Jane Rawe.
(Mr. Scaife goes on to say)
"Although their eldest son, William, was baptized at Kirkby Stephen in 1689, it appears that Richard and Elizabeth moved sometime thereafter to Durham, near Elizabeth's home."
(Mr. Scaife does not say which wife (both named Elizabeth) he means.) It would seem to me it is Elizabeth Cheesborough, but I need clarification of this.
Can anyone clarify this for me.
