My gt gt gt grandfather, Charles Scaife, born about 1809, claims, in the 1851 census for East Thickley, Co. Durham, to have been born in Bressingham, Norfolk.
He married and had five children: Robert, Enos, Ellis, Elizabeth & James, all born in Bressingham. At some time before the 1851 census the family moved to East Thickley, Co. Durham.
Enos, my gt gt grandfather, married Ann Thompson, and their son, Thompson Scarff (name change in this generation) married Isabella Sowerby. The family remained in Co. Durham.
