Scahill Family Genealogy Forum

This is just to document another line of Scahills for anyone who has an interest. James Scahill & his wife Winifred were Irish and were born in ca 1805. They settled in Biddulph Township, Ontario in the early 1850s. James Scahill is listed as a voter in the 1858 Biddulph Township list of voters. James' last name was misspelled in the 1871 Ontario Census as 'Schyall' rather than 'Scahill'. They had at least three daughters probably born in Tipperary who came with James & Winifred to Canada: Mary, Ann, & Winifred(Barry) born between 1843 & 1848 in Ireland. A son Edward was born in Ontario, May 1, 1857. This son, Edward Scahill, my gg grandfather, eventually married a Port Austin, Michigan girl named Mary Jane McDonald (McDonal ? or McDonnell ?) & they raised a family in Port Huron, Michigan. Edward died in an accident in 1912 in Sarnia, Ontario & Mary Jane remarried a man named 'Harden' & died in Port Huron as Mary Jane McDonald Scahill Harden in 1930. Between 1876 & 1894, Ed & Mary Jane Scahill gave birth to Catherine (Burns), Charles, Edward, Mary Ellen, John Francis, Martin, Joseph Roy, James Herbert, and Gertrude (Bonney). Gertrude was born in Michigan & the rest were born in Biddulph Township & London, Ontario. Most were baptized at St. Peter's Roman Catholic cathedral in London, Ontario. I hope this information helps someone. I'm putting it here to make it available to anyone who needs it. I know of descendants of these folks in Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, & New York.
