The key piece of evidence to remember is that Native Americans were NOT included in census taking......Only whites and blacks..........Natives had no value back then....that Mathilda and her parents etc were listed as all white is critical information.......It is true there were Moores and Skaggs of Native heritage: I cant find evidence that yours were.......they lived a "white" life consistent with others of the times: they were sharecroppers on land in southern Missouri during the 1870s.........they made the travels to Kansas and other states looking for a landstake like the others: nothing about them reflected a Native heritage......nor would they be allowed if they were Native......Natives were entirely ostracized from White society at the time: perhaps the odd one lived with a white family........but generally they were at war with one another......Having a native family farming your land wasnt going to happen........
