William Gilstrap, in 1857 Pickens Co., SC, Cannon family equity suit

I am trying to research a William Gilstrap who is listed in a news story on Saturday, April 25, 1857, in "The Keowee Courier" newspaper (published in a book of this name, p. 16, edited by Colleen M. Elliot) regarding an Equity Bill for Partition, Account, Relief. All of the complainants and defendants listed, except one, are known heirs of Russell Cannon (b c1752/53 VA, d 1824 Pendleton District, SC; estate papers in Anderson Co., SC) and his wife Jane (Campbell), who died 8 Mar 1855 in Pickens Co., SC. The one whom I cannot identify as an heir of Russell & Jane Cannon was William Gilstrap. Does anyone know of the connection between William Gilstrap and these Cannons?

The suit was filed by Abraham & Harriet (Cannon) Duke & their son, Russell Duke. The defendants, who were also heirs, were Joseph Dolleson & his wife Melinda (widow of Ransom Cannon), Benjamin Cannon, Washington Cannon, Carter Cannon, James Cannon, Margaret (Cannon) Marchbanks, Judy/Judith (Cannon) Kendrick, Elijah Cannon, Martha (Cannon) Brown, and WILLIAM GILSTRAP. The article said that all the defendants, except William Gilstrap, resided outside South Carolina. Was William an heir? Or was he named in some legal capacity, such as serving as a lawyer for the defendants?

Russell & Jane Cannon had land on Wolf Creek, Pendleton District, SC (which became Pickens Co. later), and there were Gilstraps who had land there, also.
