Hi,
I am looking for confirmation that Hundley Evatt Campbell (b.1810) owned or operated a hotel in Pendleton, SC in the antebellum period. I have been told by older relatives that this was the case (they said they saw the site or house as children) and the evidence from his probate inventory seems to back this up (many buggies/horses; small stock in a hotel corp.).
He has very little property on the 1850 census, but by the time of his death, he has quite a bit. How did he aquire it?
Can anyone answer?
