Central, SC - H. P. Hill family

Need information about families in Central, Pickens County, SC from 1880 to 1900. My greatgrandfather Henry P. Hill and family appear in the 1880 Federal Census living in Central, SC. I have one history of Central, SC which indicates the railroad was the main reason for the town's beginning. I believe H. P. Hill was with the railroad. He is listed in the census as a "bridgebuilder". His two sons, Percy and Herbert, began their working days as railroad men as well. Does anyone have clues as to how I can find further information on their time and life in Central? What schools were available in the 1880's and 1890's? Churches? Any ideas are appreciated.
