Lowther Estate at Pendleton circa 1815

I've come across an interesting pair of land records in the Anderson County SC Mesne Conveyance Books in which William Shaw placed an estate known as Lowther in trust to William Broadfoot of Charleston. Broadfoot, a US citizen, was named as trustee for the Right Honorable William Lord Viscount Lowther, an alien residing in England who was otherwise prohibited from owning property in the United Staes. The documents provide a full description of the land and buildings, which were on the edge of Pendleton and had a commanding view of the mountains. The original documents being recorded were executed in London and were witnessed by John Quincy Adams, who was US Ambassador at the time. This is a piece of history that I will copy and provide to anyone who is interested.
