Article from 'The Spartan' newspaper, Spartanburg, S.C. ,dated 1849.
PROSPECTUS of the KEOWEE COURIER
Pickens Court House, South Carolina
The Editorial department of this paper will be conducted by Messrs. NORRIS and KEITH, and published by MR. W. H. TRIMMIER.
As our citizens have heretofore been wholly deprived of the convenience of a Press at their county seat, the propriety of establishing one must be so apparent to all, that a neglect would indicate a disregard to the signs of the times, not less inexcusable.
The political complexion of the Keowee Courier will be purely SOUTHERN. Regarding Southern rights, Southern interest, as infinitely superior to party lines, we shall fearlessly advocate with firmness , but without intergrity, what we conceive to be the acknowledged principles and true policy of the South.
We will wage an uncompromising warfare against the Tariff, Northern interferences with Southern institutions and all other projects to contrary to the letter and spirit of the Federal Constitution.
On all matters of public interest and State policy, we will endeavor to keep our readers well informed, and to lay before them the means of arriving at the truth- and the best means of promoting the interest of the State, and the prosperity and happiness of her citizens, shall always have our warmest support.
[ thought someone in Pickens may find this article very interesting, hope so.]
