James (1793) Moses John , and Thomas Harrison Smith from old Pickens to Cheroke

I am seeking info about the following: My gg grandfather Thomas Harrison Smith b 1826 SC and the following who have some family connection: John (b. 1807 SC)and Mary b SC listed in 1850/ census for Cherokee Co Ga. James (b abt 1793) and Elizabeth Smith 1850 census for Cherokee Co Ga. By 1860, James (widower) is living next door to Moses Smith and his family. In the 1850 census for Pickens Co SC, however, Moses is listed with his family. They were neighbors to my gg grandfather Thomas Harrison Smith in Dawson Co Ga from 1870 until they died of old age. All enlisted in the Cherokee Raiders Infantry Company D in August of 1862 at Shiloah Ga. I am seeking their ancestors who were supposedly from old Pickens before Pickens became a separate county. I think Charles Smith (b 1750's) might have been the father of John and James. Many thanks for any information on the above.
