If you are a direct line descendant from any of the Turner families who were in Old Pendleton/Pickens County from around 1790-1850 time period (and even if your line stayed), I would like to encourage you to participate in the Turner Surname DNA Project done by the Family Tree DNA Company of Houston, TX. Please contact me for more information or go directly to the web site for the Family Tree DNA Company and locate the surname project for Turners to contact the surname group administrator.
As a long time researcher of the Turner lines in the Upstate of SC and having found no proof in records of how they were all related, I am now working to get all the lines tested to see if they do or do not match.
The person being tested must be a male Turner who traces his line directly back to one of the early families there. If you are not a male Turner (and there seem to be more women interested in genealogy) then hopefully you know of a Turner cousin, uncle, husband or brother who can be tested to establish a data base point for your line.
We currently have had a descendant of some of the lines from Turners in Union, Spartanburg, and Greenville who have participated but it is important that all the lines be represented and best if we have more than one test for each of the lines to be sure we have a good, reliable representative data base for all the families.
There are several other Turners that have been tested that we know went through that part of the state very early on but migrated quickly to GA. So, the data base of represented Turners is growing.
Please consider joining in.
