Hello,
I Descend from Both the Bowens & Gillespie Families.
Bowens Fork as you call it is Known as Bowens Ford. I know the location well. an old Bowen home still stands across the road from Bowens Mill, an old water powered gristmill. There used to be other buildings there but the home & mill remain in 2010. There is a historical marker by the mill. Mill built by Col. Robert Esli Bowen. Today this area is off Saluda Dam Road in Easley about 1 1/2 miles from Georges Creek Baptist Church. My Gillespie Bunch relocated to NC. after living here in SC. Rencently visited & Photographed old Gillespie Cemetery East Fork,NC. Burial Spot of Rev War Vet John Gillespie, of the Famous Gillespie Riffle Makers.
