Does anyone have information on the marriages of the Vance family of Orangeburg Co. SC? The first appearance of this family is in the christening of George Vance documented by Giessendanner: "On Tuesday April 10th . At the house of Moses Thompson, Esqr. In Amelia. George, Son of William Vance deceased, & Sarah, his wife, born November 8th, 1751." Sponsors at George Vance's baptism in 1751 were Moses Thompson Esq., (Col.) William Thomson, and Rebecca Thomson (daughter of Moses Thomson).
In 1759 Sarah Vance owned land on Mill Creek (the location later of Vance's Ferry on the Santee) (SCDAH Series No: S213184 Vol: 0007 Page: 00006 Item: 02). Later members of the family include William II, Elizabeth, and Moses Vance.
The Vance name later appears as a first name in the Thom(p)son (Vance Thompson) and Bull (Joseph Vance Bull) families. Is there a known connection?
