PERRY'S from Walhalla mystery

My ggg-grandfather CC Perry is shown in the 1870 census as living in Walhalla and his wife was Mena. In the 1880 census, it appears that Mena was remarried to a Bruno Oehring and my gg-grandfather Edward Perry - age 7- was an added Perry child from her marriage to CC Perry. This is definitely the same family because the children that were in the 1870 census was in the 1880 census with the addition of Edward. Edward was born in 1873, so something happened between 1873 and 1879 because Bruno and Mena had a 9 month old in 1880. I have searched everywhere to find out what happened. If anyone can help solve this LONG TIME family mystery, I would be eternally grateful.
