I would like to exchange information with relatives of Peter Reese (or Reece), Sr. (born ca.1731-died 1830, Pendleton District, South Carolina).
Peter was married to a woman named Barbara. As far as I know, she is only mentioned once in the records – in 1770 –so it is possible that she died at some point and Peter was married more than once.
I am (slowly) working on a book on these Reeses, and have so far researched and written about 200 pages.
Peter Reese Sr. is associated with six younger Reeses – perhaps as their father, though that is not certain.
They are: Jacob Reese (m. Susan Harris), Nancy Reese (m.Henry Whitmire), Levi Reese (wife's name not known), Elizabeth Reese (m. William Whitmire), Peter Reese Jr. (m. Rachel Anderson), and Samuel M. Reese (m. Elizabeth Findley).
These Reeses moved from Camden District, South Carolina, to Pendleton District in the 1790s.
Jacob and Susan Reese were the parents of six children:
Mary “Polly” Reese (m. Elijah Holden); Nancy Reese (m. Christopher Whitmire); Margaret Reese (m. Ratliff Boone III); Absalom Reese (m. Elizabeth Robinson); Lucinda Reese (m. Joshua Holden); and Manerva Reese (m. Elisha Murphree / Murphy)- there is a lot of incorrect information about Jacob and Susan's family posted on the internet.
Levi Reese apparently was the father of several children, but I only know of two likely candidates: Henry Reese (m. Lucinda Hudgins) and Elizabeth Reese (m. Moses Butler).
Peter Reese, Jr. and Rachel Anderson appear to be the parents of three children: John Reese (b.ca.1809, later lived in Union Co.,GA), Mary Reese (m. John H. Johnson), and Robert Reese. This Robert is perhaps the same man who married Emily Gregory, though I have not proven that.
Many of these families moved from Pickens District, South Carolina to Georgia in the 1830s, settling in such north Georgia counties as Forsyth, Gilmer, Hall and Lumpkin.
I am descended from Absalom M. Reese, through his son Samuel L. Reese, who was my great grandfather.
