Deeds before 1785 for South Carolina were recorded in Charleston. Deeds beginning in 1785 were recorded in the counties, such as Newberry. Sometimes deeds were not recorded until years after their execution. The Charleston deeds have been abstracted and published. See my webpage: www.scmar.com.
