Burr Calvert Harris 1715-1786
Posted by: Ray Harris Date: January 01, 2000 at 07:53:41
  of 1095

Would like to find definitive proof of which Burr Harris was the father of Obediah, George, Thomas, and Micajah.
I have 5 Burr's listed but only 2 are viable candidates. One was born about 1715 in Virginia (probably Prince William County) and the second I believe is the oldest son of the first. He was born about 1735 also in Virginia. On the 1742 poll list of Prince William County, Va, there are 2 Burr Harris's listed which I believe would be the first that I listed and his father (the second listed would only be 7 years old and certainly not of voting age)
In J. B. O'Neall's "Annals of Newberry" in Part 1 No. 11, I have one Burr Calvert Harris who immigrates into Newberry about 1772, buys some land and "lives on it until his death". In No. 11 it also says that this man was succeeded by his youngest son, Micajah (who is also identified as having a wife's brother named James Shephard-so he is probably the Micajah who married Sarah Shephard). Summer's "Newberry county: Historical and Geneological" says that Burr Calvert Harris had sons of Micajah, Thomas, Obed, and George.
Also in the "Annals of Newberry" Part 1 No. 20 (the chapter on Maximillian Haynie) I find that Max Haynie had 2 daughters by his first wife and the younger of those 2 married Burr Harris, came to Newberry with Max (or with the other Burr)(or as a family with her husband), stayed in Newberry for a few years and then moved to Pendleton District.
Obviously, one man can't live in Newberry until his death and also move to Pendleton. The statements are contradictory.
Logic tells me that the first Burr is the father of George, Obed, Thomas, and Micajah. Logic is not a document. The name Micajah is so common in this family that I can't use that as definitive proof either.
Incidentally-George is my 4g-grandfather
Any help appreciated and I have considerable files on descendants of George.
