Mr. Rakes,
Thank you for your kind offer to do quick lookups
from the SC Archives.
My ggg grandparents were Jacob and Rebecca
Robertson (possibly Robinson) Faulkenberry.
Rebecca's name is spelled Rebekah on her tombstone.
Jacob's name may have been spelled Fortenberry, (son
of a Faulkenberry) in some SC records.
In the Faulkenberry Bible I own, Jacob's death date is
listed as 6 November 1873. The spelling is listed as
Faulkenberry. Jacob was born SC, 6 November 1809.
Rebecca was born 16 May 1810.
(Some records have Rebecca's birthdate listed as 1801;
but I feel the "1" and the "0" were reversed).
Her youngest son was born 1855, in Lincoln Co., TN.
If she had been born in 1801, she would have been eight
years older than Jacob. He would have been only 19 and
she about 27 when they married, circa 1828 in SC.(If she
was indeed born in 1801, she would have been 54 at the
time of their youngest child's birth. I find that difficult
to believe).
They are found in Chesterfield Co., SC, in 1830, and
later in Lancaster Co., in the 1840 census.
They migrated to TN before 1843; because TN births
list twins, a son Lewis and a daughter, Laura, born
there in 1843.A son Zachariah T. was born in TN
in 1845.
Also listed in this Bible is just a death date for William
Robertson, d. 16 January 1848, (probably in Lancaster
Co., SC).
I believe William Robertson was the father of Rebecca
and that his death in 1848, gave them reason to be back
in SC in 1850.They are listed in the 1850 SC, census
with a seven year old male, (initial L.), a seven year old
female, (initials L.B), a five year old male, (initial L.) as
well as a sixteen year old male, (initials L.E.). I cannot
account for L.E.
They are found in TN for the 1860 census.
Jacob died in 1872 or 1873; Rebecca died in 1889.
They are buried in Lincoln Co., TN.
William R. Faulkenberry, their son, b. SC., 8 November
1831, was my gg grandfather.Jeremiah M., born SC,
1830, was possibly their son as well.
In the South Carolina Magazine of Ancestral Research,
V of Xii. No. 4 (Fall 1984), "Marriages, Deaths, and
Estate Notices from the Lancaster Ledger", p. 214);
I found this public notice:
South Carolina, Lancaster District in Ordinary,
Isaiah Robertson, applicant, vs. Little Robertson,
Tyrey Robertson, et al.Tyrey Robertson, Jacob
Faulkenberry and wife Rebecca, two of the defendants,
reside without this state.9 October, 1860.
The Bible includes death dates only for:Gilman
Burdett Faulkenberry, d. 7 October 183?,Wesley
Faulkenberry, d. 6 September 184?,James Marion
Faulkenberry, d. 3 March 184?, J.M. Faulkenberry,
d. 3 May 186?
I would like to find both Jacob's and Rebecca's parents
and siblings.
Thank you,
Murdena Faulkenberry Simmons
