HUGGINS, Charlotte on 1899 SC land salle
I am researching the family of John L. HUGGINS of Cheraw, Chesterfield Co, SC. His son, William Jabius "Jabe" HUGGINS is my great-grandfather.From another researcher I was sent a copy from some of the official records in SC.This is a sale of land between a WJ HUGGINS and JA FUNDERBURK, completed on 2 October 1899 for $25 dollars. The tract of land is "all that certain piece parcel of tract of land situate (sic) in Chesterfield County and known as a part of the Dowdy (possibly Sandy?) JOHNSON tract and being in Steer Pen Township, containing fifty acres more or less and bounded as follows, on the South by the lands of TJ WILSON,, on the West by the Crenshaw lands, on the North by Paterman (possibly something else) branch up to a fork, coming out of said branch up to the East by lands of GW FREEMAN, the east line having been agreed to by GW FREEMAN and WJ HUGGINS..." and it goes on with the legal speak that these two men agreed that WJ HUGGINS would relinquish his and his heirs' claims to the land, etc.
This was witnessed by Erasmus AVERY and Erasmus AVERY, SR.DL WINTERS was the magistrate who interviewed the wife of WJ HUGGINS to determine that she went along willingly with the sale, gave up any dower rights to it, etc.Her name is listed as Charlotte HUGGINS.
Now for my question -- Does anyone know the relationship between this WJ HUGGINS and John L. HUGGINS, if any?MY WJ Huggins was married to Frances Elizabeth TOLSON at the time and already had several children with her and would be moving to AL in a couple of years. Is this WJ HUGGINS a brother to John, possibly? Can anyone tell me who Charlotte HUGGINS was, anything about the identity of her husband? Thanks--Cindy
