Lawrence,
Thanks for reply. We're pretty much in agreement on everything related to your Matthew.Of course, I probably got a lot of it from your gedcom on WorldConnect Project.I don't think that last marriage of Agnes Nancy McClurkins looks right. She would have been 19 and he (James McClure) 56 on date of that marriage.I believe McClure married Nancy of another McClurkin line.
Some folks believe Matthew's first wife, Jennet is Gennet McClurkin, daughter of James McClurkin and Mary (elder James who arrived on "Lord DeLunce").James in his will refers to "James McClurkin my daughter Genet's son", so Gennet would seem to have married another McClurkin. Also in will of Gennet's brother John, she and son James are again mentioned and a Matthew McClurkin signed as present at the signing and sealing of the will.Only other McClurkin to sign seems to have been John himself.Would seem that there is a fairly strong possibility that a Matthew McClurkin was husband of Gennet/Jennet McClurkin.
But which Matthew McClurkin?Do you know where and when your Matthew died?I have this note on a Matthew McClurkin:
"Mathew McClurkin (1761-1847) was placed on the Indiana pension roll, 1840, for service as private, 1780, under Lieutenant Houston, Colonels Middleton and Sumter, and was in the battle of Hanging Rock. He was born in Ireland; died in Fayette County, Ind."
Birthdate would seem to make this a different Matthew McClurkin.Do you know which Matthew McClurkin is yours in the 1790 census of Chester? On page 185 there is:
Mathew McClarkin 1-2-1-1-0
Among his close neighbors are: John McClurkin (4 doors away) with numbers 1-1-5-0-0, and William Boyd (10 doors away).
And on page 205 there is another one:
Matthew McClurkin 1-2-3-0-1
His next door neighbor is a Thomas McClurkin with numbers 1-3-4-0-7.
Any idea who this extra Matthew McClurkin might be and is there anyway to show which one married Jennet/Gennet?
Thanks, Butch
