Looking for researchers familiar with Captain Joseph Darby, believed to have been born in South Carolina about 1759. As a Loyalist, he fled to Florida around 1783 and by 1784 took a ship to Halifax, Nova Scotia settling at Country Harbour, Guysborough County. He married Martha Matthews, a widow of John Matthews, a Loyalist from Georgia.

Joseph and Martha had 3 children who settled at Country Harbour, Sable Island and Halifax:

1. James Edward Darby (1783-1863)m. Rachel Elizabeth Campbell

2. Joseph Henry Darby (1788-1863) m. Mary Maria Stevens

3. Martha Anne Darby (1790-1863)m. Archibald Cameron

Their 2nd son, Joseph Henry Darby became the Superintendent of the Humane Rescue Station on Sable Island, Nova Scotia from 1830-1848.

I'm trying to find out who Joseph Darby and Martha Matthews parents were as well as the names of their children's families.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanx,

Jamie
