Gone to Brushy Creek, Texas! Tom Bailey?
Gone to Texas! Looking for Tom Bailey!
Some of my Bailey ancestors emigrated to Texas before the turn of the century. Originally from South Carolina, my Bailey
family was in Coweta County, Georgia by 1830. The Baileys are closely linked to the history of Bethel Methodist Church located on Luther Bailey Road near the towns of Senoia and Haralson in Coweta County, Georgia.
My great great grandfather, Alston (Austin) Bailey, had a brother named Tom (Thomas)who settled near Tyler, Texas. After Alston's death (1902), the family in Georgia received letters from Tom Bailey postmarked Brushy Creek, Texas. Contact was lost with Tom and family in Texas after death of Alston.
Virginia and her brother Warren Bailey (my cousins) went to the Texas Archives and traced Tom Bailey through the census records until 1920. They couldn't find Brushy Creek on any modern road maps and were unable to trace Tom Bailey's decendants.
From postings on various message boards it appears that Brushy Creek, Texas was a farming community outside of Palestine,
Anderson County, Texas. If this message 'rings a bell' with any Texas Baileys, please contact me through this forum or by e-mail at ([email protected]).
