Richard Ratliff was a soldier in Co. K of the 27th Regiment of Georgia volunteers. He enlisted 15 October 1861 in Co.K formed in Talbot County, GA In the fall of 1863 we were in the same regiment, and on the march we were ordered to cross the Rappahannock River, and laid all night in a piece of woods. One of his mess mates went to wake Richard Ratliff up for breakfast and found him dead. This was reported to his Captain, and having to move, we carried him a few yards from where he died, rolled him up in his blanket, and buried him. This was in the state of Virginia somewhere and a great way from Petersburg." Further applications state that he died from a relapse of the measles. On the list of Co. K list both Richard Ratliff (Radcliff) Jr. (18 years old) and a Richard Radcliff Sr. (48 years old) died in service. Richard Sr. died 30 November 1862 and Richard Jr. 28 October 1863. QL Nash
There is a variety of spellings. I am hoping that someone out there might know some information about their parents. I found their children and grandchildren but I can not find out anything about their parents. Who they were and where they came from. Please if anyone out there can help me I would be greatly appreciative. It has been a struggle to complete my family tree with out finding this missing link. If I need to provide any more information please let me know.
