Family History Book Henry Key of Edgefield County, SC
I have just made available on Amazon a new book about Henry Key of the old District 96. Henry Key was born in Virginia in 1730 and became a very well to do land speculator in the Old Amherst County. In about 1773, he decided to move to Edgefield County, South Carolina and died in Edgefield in 1776. His home site over looked Turkey Creek as well as the family cemetery. To reach that site, travel from Edgefield on Key Road, cross over Turkey Creek and continue to the first road on the left. Take that gravel road and stay on it until it dead ends at Turkey Creek. His home site and cemetery will be on your left as you approach Turkey Creek. The cemetery is of course grown up and all that remains are some sink holes that are now difficult to find. In 1994, a field stone markers was found that had the date of 1775 inscribed upon it. There are actually two different cemeteries located here. One was likely for the slaves.
The name of the book is "The Family of Captain Henry Key of Virginia/South Carolina." This is a two volume set with the index being in volume two. The book seeks to list the origin of this family in England and then to list the descendants of Henry Key. It is a must have genealogy for the descendants of Henry and Mary Clark Key.
