Davis family in South Carolina, presumably from the Spartanburg area
Thank you for reading this post.
I am searching for a Davis family in South Carolina, presumably from the Spartanburg area........
The name I am aware of is: William W. Davis
and then another writing of William Davis Jr.
This could well be William W. Davis Jr.
I don't know of any of his siblings or parents.
The 1830 census, shows him with a daughter born about 1820
that is presumed to have been Reginer A. Davis...the name Jiner, that's how its been found to have been spelled by family but could have been mispelled in old Bible or just looked like a J vs a G. This name is a guess as to whether its a surname or really should be a first name like Gina or Regina.
Apparently this Davis family traveled back and forth btw Alabama and South Carolina. There were other children in the 1830 Alabama census, a son under age 5 born 1828 and another daughter under 5 or btw 5 & 10 but this daughter is unknown and does not show up in the 1840 census so is presumed to have died. The mother also seems to have died
bef 1840 census as William has remarried 1836 in Lowndes County, Alabama to the widow Sarah of Richard Faulk who also lived in Alabma and was a neighbor.
1860 Tenn census shows a widow Sarah Davis living with
step-daughte Reginer A. Pogue...married to William Pogue born c1815 Mississippi.
William had two sons who married Amanda C. Cannon and the other married Mary Frances McElrath and Jane M. Wood, all marriage took place in Benton/Calhoun County, Alabama before and by January 1860.
Is this any of your famiy?
I would appreciate anything that anyone might know about this family...
Thanks so much
Ann
