Thanks for the info! I did not have the 1870 Census (with the name misspelled as Aulberson)! The indian blood is supposed to come from Sarah's side. I have seen many postings of her grandfather, William Jeffries, being either Occaneechi-Saponi, Cawtaba, or other small Souian tribe. The Siouan people, commonly referred to generically as the Saponi, Tutelo. Occoneechee, Eno, Cheraw. Many families connected to these bloodlines have carried the identification of "Blackfoot." (Not to be confused with the "Blackfeet" of the plains.) Much in the manner of the Cherokee and others carrying the identification of "Black Dutch".
My grandfather, Sarah's grandson, always said he was indian from Sarah but did not know which tribe. He also used the term "Black Dutch".
