Good Morning, Im trying to help a friend of mine, Foy Edward Thomas III (whom i requested to be added to this group) with his brick wall :

Mason GATREY, Sr. - from Baldwin/Mobile, Alabama area born pre-1870 (African-American)

This is the ggf of a friend of mine looking for info. His son, Mason Gatrey, Jr. married a Beulah Thomson and he was probably born around 1900.

Please let us know if you can find Mason Gatrey, Sr on census record, and vital records.

Ive been able to fin Mason Gatrey, Jr listed with his wife Beulah Thompson on a death record for their daughter Juila Voncille Gatrey in 1950 on Family Search. But this name is going to have multiple spellings because of how it sounds. In fact, I saw a Julia Guitrey in LEE County, Al in 1900 Census. He is not sure if his ggf was enslaved in SC, but if so, this lady might hold a clue.

Leakesville, MS might be an expanded are and i have been helping him in between my own family searches, so i havent found anything on surface and not had time to dig deeper and he is relatively new to genealogy.

I can be reached at

Thank You
