If you had ancestors enslaved in South Carolina, they may have been brought there and actually was born in Georgia or another state. There is a book available for purchase, Slave Records of Edgefield SC. You MUST know names of ancestors starting from 1865 back. Some slaveholders transported their slaves in and out of different parts of SC Cities over the years. This book starts alphabetically by the slaveholders name. Then the slaves that were sold is listed in the first column. 22,200 slaves in a 432 page book.Remember slaves did not have surnames before 1870 and many, many did not take or keep the last slaveholders surname.
