Charleston 1848 marriage Waters & Legare?
After a decade hunting a maiden name for Elizabeth H.Waters of MS born SC, I found The Schirmer Diary, So Carolina Hist. Mag. vol 79 no.3 pg 250 lists Charleston Jan. 1848
1 Ansell G Waters---Elisb H. Legare -------Mr. Dupont
3 B.T. Rogers------ Eleaner H. Few ----Mr Lewis at Mobile
and about 9 other name sets.
Mr Dupont may be Rev. Thomas C Dupont of St Stephen's Chapel, Charleston so I figure I've finally found marriage reference for my g-g-gparents.
Now I find no further history for Elisabeth H. Legare.
My Elisabeth Waters was b. 22 Jul 1824 in SC.
Married Ansel G Waters (of Mass.?) and had first child Emma Sept 10, 1848 in Hamburg SC.
Elisabeth supposedly had French and protestant background.
Reading posts I find Legare as Huguenots fits what I knew. And Ansel was born approx. 1812 in Canada. No idea his parents either.
Reading posts of Canadian Legare lines leaves me wondering if Canadian and SC Waters lines were previously acquainted with Canadian and SC Legare lines.
Would greatly appreciate any help on Ansel's parents, Elisabeth's parents or any connection between the Canadian and South Carolina lines. Thank you
