Hello Anne,
The 1779 'census' for Ninety Six District, was not a true census as we know the word.

The 1779 census was actually two new jurors lists, one for petit jurors and one for grand jurors. Not every one in the six districts the lists were made for was put on the lists. Only free white males with a good reputation and owning land were on the lists. The following link will tell you more details and it also has a list of thoses jurors...
