Benjamin & Sarah Harris-Anderson Co., SC
Thomas A. Harris was born about 1838 perhaps in Anderson Co., SC, possibly the Thomas, son of Benjamin and Sarah Harris there in 1850. He married Elizabeth who was born about 1840 probably in Georgia and they are found in 1860 in Cherokee Co., AL but by 1870 are in Franklin Co., AR where Elizabeth died before 1880. Their children were Mary b. 1858 who may have married John B. Brackeen of Lamar Co., TX; William David Harris (1860-1904), Annie b. 1865, John b. 1869, and Jesse b. 1873. In Aug 1881 Thomas married Mary E. Bell in Franklin Co. Their children were Charley b. 1882, Walter b. 1884, James b. 1886, and Myrtle b. 1895. [Myrtle bore the Harris name but was not Thomas' child.] Thomas died in 1889 according to his widow's Civil War pension application.
Thomas A. Harris was a private in Company H, 48th Alabama Infantry, CSA and part of the "Cherokee Grays." He enlisted April 29, 1862 at Cedar Bluff in Cherokee Co., AL, and was last listed on the muster roll in Sep and Oct 1864 as in hospital.
I would like to hear from others working on Franklin Co., AR Harris families or those working on Cherokee Co., AL or Anderson Co. Harrises.
