My GGrandmother was Elizabeth Thompson, born in Chester County in 1859, to Solomon Thompson, and his wife Susan Campbell Thompson. Solomon was born in 1827 in Chester County to James Thompson, who was born around 1800. James had another son, and at least two daughters. Immigration records show only one Thompson arriving in Charleston in the 1760's and 70's. His name was Robert, from NOrthern Ireland. Census records indicate that Solomon Thompson was born in NOrth Carolina, which means that his father, James, immigrated into a different port. It's possible that James was related to your Captain John, perhaps as a nephew.
