The Church of England (Episcopal) established in South Carolina in 1706 was the official state-supported church and had the responsibility for recording births, marriages, and burials during the colonial period. Between 1706 and 1778 there were twenty-five parishes established and there are seven whose records have survived and have been published either in book form or in The South Carolina Historical and Genealogical Magazine. The main repository for the extant records is the South Carolina Historical Society in Charleston.
